I have an idea (might be a wrong one!) that the problem may lie with the drive it's fairly old and I noticed the disks I want to copy and edit are thinner than CDs so im thinking that might be the issue?!
Going to call on the services of my bro and the equipment at his disposal...

Just use someones computer to extract the files from the dvd to a usb key then edit on your PC. Video editing can be labor intensive for a computer so depending on what you are doing it might take some time to process.

PM me if you're having problems
