No roaming in Greece

[ Edited ]
Pathfinder

Hi,

ok after battling for a whole month with you guys to get roaming in Europe working and my money back for the charges in Switzerland... I thought I am through with the problems.

yes I got the money back, but what ever you have changed on my account didn’t made data roaming work in Greece. :-(

wondering if this can be addressed before I leave Greece on the 5th.

yes I tried to reset the network settings.

yes I tried to manually select the carrier.

yes I tried another device.

none of the above helped.

so from the last time I was able to data roam in Switzerland and Germany. But not in Italy or France. And to the no go list comes now Greece as well.

i know I will have to repeat all this again in the PM but maybe someone reads that before and just asks me (again) for my personal details and then the whole thing can finally be fixed.

only “Wind gr” gives me service, but no data roaming. Both other carriers are “no service”.

Just out of interest could you try your sim in another phone?
Wonder is it something with Apple.

And now comes the 2 big questions....

by default I get “3ireland.ie” as APN server for “Mobile Data”.

if I change it to “3internet” I suddenly have a data connection.

1) what is the difference between those two?

2) why do I get a APN Server that doesn’t allow me to roam?

This is what the different apns are for.

3ireland.ie (Three phone SIM)
3internet (Three data SIM, public IP address*)
3broadband.ie (Three data SIM, private IP address)
nbs.ie (former NBS data SIM, private IP address)
internet (business phone & former O2 phone SIMs)
open.internet (former O2 data SIMs, private IP address)
open.internet.public (former O2 data SIMs, public IP address*)

Warning! Using the incorrect APN with bill pay SIMs can result in auto-of-bundle charges even on the unlimited / All You Can Eat plans, especially with business, iPhone and former O2 plans. Some Three bill pay phones such as the iPhones are configured to use the open.internet APN for tethering, which will also result in out-of-bundle charges when attempting to tether directly from the handset (Hotspot mode).

So I guess some of the apns are provisioned correctly in Greece but you may get charged if you use them.

So on wind if you change your apn you get data?
I would pm a mod to confirm that you won't get charged for using that apn.
You would have a fair guess to see if you have any additional charges if you login to my3 tomorrow and see if you got charged for this evening

APN Settings for iPhones and iPad are usually provided via the carrier updates. Based on specific device model, iOS version and ICCID.
Screwing with these can be blocked by the carrier and should be done if wrong information are circulating. Three doesn’t do that anymore for whatever reason. They did it in the past.
There would be an easy solution for three in this particular case... just let your staff answer here in the topic which APN is the correct one to use and if 3ireland.ie is the correct one.... then why doesn’t it work.
