In the world of tech, a lot can happen in seven days. This week we look at the brand new Huawei Mate 10, an updated Samsung Bixby and Microsoft’s latest laptop.

Huawei has just announced its brand new smartphone, the Mate 10, and Huawei’s most ambitious flagship yet. Huawei unveiled the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro this week, with both phones looking very slick with an aluminium frame, glass back and an impressive 6” OLED display.

As well as having an impressive Leica-branded dual-lens camera with a 20MP black and white sensor and a 12MP colour sensor, the Huawei Mate 10 comes with an octa-core Kirin 970 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage, with support for cards of up 256GB. It’ll also come with Android Oreo and a new AI-powered object-recognition camera feature.

It was recently announced that due to the company’s huge popularity in China, Huawei is now the world’s second most popular smartphone brand, putting it just behind Samsung and ahead of Apple. It appears Huawei is finally able to compete with its major rivals, and the Huawei Mate 10 is a testament to that. Three will be stocking the Huawei Mate 10 in the near future – so stay tuned.

Earlier this year, Samsung released digital assistant Bixby, to compete with current personal assistants such as Siri and Google Assistant. On Wednesday, Samsung announced it is updating Bixby and making it available for a range of different connected devices. It appears that Samsung wants to take advantage of its product portfolio, which includes many home appliances.

Bixby 2.0 can now be linked to TVs, fridges, home speakers and any other connected technology. Samsung executive VP Eui-Suk Chung described Bixby 2.0 as “ubiquitous, available on any and all devices” and that it will “act as a control hub of your device ecosystem”.

Bixby is currently available on certain Samsung smartphones. To turn Bixby on or off on your device, check out How To: Turn Bixby On or Off.

This week Microsoft announced a brand new laptop, the Surface Book 2. The Surface Book 2 will be available in two sizes, Mashable reports, a 13.5-inch and a 15-inch model, and will be the first Microsoft Surface laptop to have a USB-C port.

Like its predecessor, the Surface Book 2 will be a hybrid laptop with a removable tablet screen. The laptop will have the new Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and the 15-inch model will be an impressive five times more powerful than the original Surface Book.  It’ll also have 17 hours of battery life.

The Surface Pro 2 will be on sale from the 16th November.
