Do you have a thousand different app icons on several different home screens? Does it take you an age to find that one or several infrequently used apps? If this sounds like you then read on for the tip of the week; how to organise and create folders on your home screen ? Make your life a bit easier!

Tidy up

Start by uninstalling any apps that you have never used. You may have forgotten they were even there so just go through what you have and uninstall those apps. Not only does this tidy up your home screen instantly but it also frees up space in the internal memory.

  1. Android
  • Hold down the app you want to remove and “uninstall” will appear.
  • Select this and then it’s gone.

  1. iOS
  • Hold down any app on your home screen and all the installed apps will jiggle and an X will appear.
  • Select this X to delete the app you want to remove and hey presto it’s gone.

Home screen dock

It goes without saying, that it’s best to tidy up your home screen dock. This is the place at the bottom of your home screen where you can squeeze in 5 of your favourite icons for quick and easy access.  For both Android and iPhone, just hold down the app you want displayed here and move it to the bottom of your screen. Be careful, iPhone apps do a jiggle and the X will appear!

Making a folder

Now onto the exciting part; the underutilised and often forgotten function of making folders. The process is much the same for both Android and iPhone, except as previously mentioned, iPhone does a little jiggle. To start, Select two apps of similar categories, let’s say Twitter and  Facebook or Mircosoft apps.

  1. Android
  • Select one of the apps
  • Move one on top of the other
  • Release
  • A folder automatically appears.
  • Add to the folder by sliding apps of choice over to it.

  1. iOS
  • Select an app. Remember it will jiggle and an X will appear.
  • Move this app on top of the other
  • A folder automatically appears.
  • Add to the folder by sliding apps of choice over to the folder

Naming your folders

When you’re happy that everything you need is nice and snug in the folder, you’ll need to add a name. The funnier the better?

  1. Android
  • Open the folder.
  • Highlight the generic name ( folder 1)
  • Delete this.
  • Add your own!

  1. iOS
  • Open the folder.
  • Highlight the generic name ( folder 1)
  • Delete this.
  • Add your own!

Result

Now you’ve got a tidy and well organised screen which means: less home screens, less swiping, less searching and no more fumbling around for that app you used last week. Imagine all the time you’ll save?  #MakeAMinute
