The first phones announced were the iPhone Xs and Xs Max. The Xs series is an upgrade from last year’s iPhone X, a game changer for the company, since it was the first time Apple had introduced an edge-to-edge screen on one of their devices. This time around, the screen of the Xs series is bigger and better. The Xs will have a Super-Retina screen with custom OLED display, delivering the most accurate colour in the industry. The iPhone Xs will have a 5.8” display, with the Xs Max having the largest iPhone screen ever – a 6.5” display.
In terms of hardware, Apple says the new Xs series has the most durable glass ever in a smartphone, as well surgical-grade stainless steel and improved water and dust resistance. Like its predecessors, the Xs series will support wireless charging. The phones will have the intelligent A12 Bionic chip, which Apple claim is the smartest, most powerful chip in the smartphone industry.
The iPhone Xs and Xs Max will come in three different colours: space grey, silver and a very pretty-looking gold hue. Apple has also introduced more memory to its devices than ever before, with the option to buy a new iPhone with 512GB storage (as well as 64GB and 256GB).
The camera has improved too. The iPhone Xs will have a smarter HDR mode, with a faster sensor, greater colour accuracy and larger pixels. The phones will have dual 12MP rear cameras, f/1.8 wide-angle lens, f/2.4. telephoto lens, 4K video and improved Portrait Mode, as well as a front camera.
Both phones will have Face ID – which marks the end of Apple’s commitment to touch ID – they now believe Face ID is the future.
Apple also announced the iPhone Xr – a more affordable iPhone. The iPhone Xr will have an all-new Liquid Retina display, the most advanced LCD in the industry. It will have an edge-to-edge 6.1”screen, as well as Face ID, wireless charging and the A12 Bionic chip.
In terms of camera quality – the iPhone Xr delivers on this too: with a 12MP rear camera and 7MP front camera.
The iPhone Xr will come in six different colours: black, blue, silver, yellow, coral and red – as well three memory variations: 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. The days of low-memory iPhones are well and truly over.
