App of the Week: Waze

Waze is a community-based GPS navigation and traffic app, which aims to make driving easier and improve journey times. Using real-time information from other Waze users, it helps you avoid traffic, accidents, road works and more.

Why should I download it?

On the surface it sounds a little like Google Maps, but Waze goes one step further. Every user contributes by automatically providing real-time info about your journey which helps others travelling on similar routes. Waze can redirect you around unexpected traffic, providing live routing, shortening your journey time and getting you to your destination as fast as possible. You can actively report accidents, traffic, and other hazards which will be automatically updated to the app’s database. Waze also informs you of how fast you’re travelling, helping you to drive safely at all times and avoid any hefty speeding fines or penalty points.

If you’d like, you can communicate with your friends by syncing Facebook and phone contacts too. Then if you’re meeting up, you can see your friend’s route and an estimate of when they’ll arrive. You could even save some money using the app – it’ll notify you about the cheapest fuel and petrol stations in your area.

The highlight of the app? It’s free, extremely helpful and available for both Android and Apple devices.

Where can I find it?

Waze is free to download on the App Store and the Google Play Store.
